On Thursday 28th August, a total of 170 drug tests were carried out on cyclists registered in the Spanish Vuelta. This is the first stage of thorough checks taking place.

The Spanish race is the first big test in which biological passports are to be enforced. "All riders will have their biological passport in order. The laboratory in Madrid, furthermore, is equipped with the technology necessary to detect CERA,"explained Víctor Cordero, general director of La Vuelta.

Thousands of people have savaged Britain's 'tacky' and 'embarrassing' handover from the Beijing Olympics.

London Mayor Boris Johnson came in for particular criticism, as did the version of Whole Lotta Love performed by Leona Lewis and Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page.

Seven million viewers tuned in to watch the closing ceremony, during which David Beckham kicked a ball into the crowd and Lewis arrived in a red London bus.

But hundreds of viewers have contacted MailOnline to voice their anger - and embarrassment - at the ceremony.

And three thousand British viewers let rip on the BBC News website and the corporation's Have Your Say online message boards.

The BBC forums were so busy moderators had to close them down to make space for new debates.

Two hundred comments on the corporation's website were censored because they were obscene.

And in a MailOnline poll, more than three-quarters of those who replied said that they had been embarrassed by Britain's handover.

By midday today, out of a total of 5200 people who had voted, 3900 people believed that the ceremony had been embarrassing rather than a source of pride.

Is it me or all that thing with Leona Lewis, Jimmy Page and David Beckham was just lame and stupid? How about the dancers and the bus? After seing the shows that the Chinese have put together maybe London should quit and let somebody else hold the Olympics.

Gervasio Deferr Angel (born November 7, 1980 in Premià de Mar, Barcelona) is a Spanish gymnast.

He became the Olympic champion in men's vault at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney (scored 9.712) and has repeated the feat at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens (scoring 9.737 average — vault 1 scored 9.687; vault 2 scored 9.787).

He considers floor exercise as his favorite event and has had some success in major competitions. He won a silver medal on floor at the 1999 World Championships of Gymnastics with a score of 9.750 points, which he repeated eight years later with another silver medal at the 2007 World Championships as well as two titles in the World Cup 2000 in Ljubljana, Slovenia — 9.688 points and the World Cup 2001 in Paris, France — 9.625 points.

He also had a finish in second place at the 2002 World Championships on floor exercise but the medal was soon taken away afterwards when he was tested positive for marijuana.

Michael Phelps continued his amazing meet with his second individual and third world record overall by lowering his own global standard of 1:55.94 set on August 9, 2003 with an incredible 1:55.84 in the 200-meter IM at the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships.

Meanwhile, American Ryan Lochte helped Phelps to the record by actually leading through 150 meters en route to silver in 1:56.11.

Phelps took a slim .20 second lead after the butterfly leg with a 25.11 against Lochte’s 25.31. Lochte, however, countered in the backstroke leg with a 29.07 split against Phelps’ 29.38 to take a lead, 54.38 to 54.49. Lochte held onto the lead after the breaststroke leg with a 33.87 split compared to Phelps’s 33.90 to remain in front 1:28.25 to 1:28.39. Phelps, however, brought it home to break the record with a lightning fast 27.45 freestyle split. Lochte came home with a 27.86 freestyle split to claim second.
